This excellent entry-level integrated amp breaks all the rules. That’s because it’s the first in its class to offer current feedback architecture – a feature that until now has been exclusive to the much more expensive models. This technology provides very fast and accurate signal handling which results in perfectly balanced stereo sound reproduction and a very open and precise sound stage. Offering 40W per channel into 8 ohm or 55W into 4 ohm, this amp includes a metal chassis and front metal panel to ensure a very rigid and solid base. It also offers customized components for sound tuning, a phono MM equaliser, as well as Source Direct functionality to ensure shortest signal paths. This superb integrated amplifier offers many features that separate it from the rest of the pack. The Source Direct button bypasses all tone controls for the purest possible signal. Dual tape loops make easy work of recording or adding a high-quality headphone amp. The PM5004 has a very decent built-in MM phono stage so you can easily connect a turntable and enjoy the pleasures of vinyl. Front panel mounted bass and treble controls allow easy fine tuning of any recording and the PM5004 also includes a balance function which we find very useful for centering the image when the speakers are unequal distances from the amp. The PM5004 has cool knobs for both volume control and input selection. The rear panel sports real binding posts, a detachable power cord and five analog inputs plus Phono. The remote is ergonomic, intuitive, easy to use and controls virtually all Marantz gear right out of the box.
